Professor Julie Andsager studies media, health, and public opinion. She is co-author of two books: "Self Versus Others: Media, Messages, and the Third-person Effect" and "Free Expression in Five Democratic Publics." She served as associate editor of Journalism & Mass Communication Quarterly for ten years. She received her doctorate from the University of Tennessee and bachelor's and master's degrees from Kansas State University.
On 2016 polling being off:"Most of the polls weren’t as far wrong as people think, but the importance of the margin of error didn’t receive enough attention from news media. It appears that Trump supporters may have avoided participating in polls due to his criticism of the polling industry and the media."
