Gary Sayler's research focuses on the interaction of anthropogenic disturbances of the environment and microbial process and community response, which can ameliorate environmental effects and potential health risks. He has more than twenty-five years of experience in multidisciplinary laboratory and field environmental research and biodegradation of organic pollutants such as PCBs, polynuclear aromatic hydrocarbons, and trichloroethylene. Over the past fifteen years, he has pioneered the development of environmental molecular diagnostics.
