Elizabeth MacTavish is a veteran middle school science teacher with 15 years in public schools including Knox County Schools. Her responsibilities in the department include supervising pre-service teachers during their internship year and teaching several content and methods course in science, math, and technology. During her time in the Knox County Schools, MacTavish designed and implemented a STEM program for middle-schoolers. This program led to her passion of researching middle school females' science identities in an effort to identify what aspects of their lives draw them to science careers or what aspects disengage them from science.
