Roessner received her doctorate from the University of Georgia in Athens and came to UT in 2010. She teaches the history and principles of journalism, media reporting, mass communications history, and advanced sports writing. Before moving to academia, Roessner worked as a sports writer at the Gainesville Times, associate editor of Athens magazine, and the editor of Gainesville Life.

Roessner is currently is writing Jimmy Who? Jimmy Carter and the Practice of Presidential Press & Promotion in the Age of the Credibility Gap, to be published by the LSU Press. Roessner can address campaign press and promotion, the image-construction and maintenance apparatus that emerged in a post-modern society, and origins of the anti-establishment impulse and the permanent campaign.
